Dear Valued Members,
As part of our commitment to keep you informed, we’d like to share what went on at the board meeting this week and some exciting developments happening with the Kimberley Arts Council at Centre 64.
1. Establishment of a Personnel Committee:
The Board has formed a Personnel Committee, consisting of Sharon Cross and Roger Mitchell. This committee will focus on supporting our staff, reviewing policies, and ensuring we have the right team in place to serve our community better.
2. Fundraising Initiatives and Potential Partnerships:
• New Fundraising Ideas: We’re exploring exciting fundraising initiatives to enhance our financial sustainability. One idea is incorporating a “Sip and Shop” experience into our events, which would offer a fun and engaging way for members to support the Centre.
• Community Collaborations: We will reach out to local organizations like the Rotary Club, Tourism Kimberley, and the Chamber of Commerce to enhance community events such as First Saturdays and Oktoberfest. These partnerships aim to enrich our offerings and strengthen community ties.
3. Membership Enhancements:
• Membership Review: The Board is reviewing our membership structure to provide even more value to our members. This may include introducing new membership tiers with added perks. We’ll keep you updated as these plans develop.
• Feedback Welcome: We value your opinions! If you have suggestions on how we can improve the membership experience, please let us know.
4. Bylaw Amendments: To improve our governance and efficiency, the Board has decided to amend the bylaws to adjust the number of board members to five to seven. The board is continuing to review the bylaws to streamline decision-making and ensure effective leadership.
5. Financial Health and Self-Sufficiency:
• Financial Position: Despite facing some unique challenges this year, such as decreased funding from grants and unexpected legal expenses, we are pleased to report that we remain in a strong financial position moving forward.
• Reducing Reliance on Grants: We’re focusing on becoming more self-sufficient by generating more than 50% of our income outside of grants. This approach will contribute to the Centre’s long-term stability and allow us to invest more into programs you love.
6. New Programs: A big shout-out to our staff and Mona for the successful Glass Fusion program! Your positive feedback means the world to us, and we’re excited to bring you more engaging programs in the future. Stay tuned for Glass@C64!
7. Community Engagement in Parking Solutions:
• Parking Improvements: We’re actively discussing ways to improve parking around the Centre to make your visits more convenient. This includes advocating for secure bike storage and exploring transportation options like ride-sharing services.
We feel including these updates will help keep our membership fully informed about the strategic steps we’re taking to enhance operations, programming, and financial sustainability. It also reinforces our commitment to transparency and encourages members to feel more connected to the Centre’s ongoing development.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved in any of these initiatives, we’d love to hear from you!
Warm regards,
The Centre 64 Team
