Artist talk by Deborah Thompson
“Pan-dulum: A Call to Unreason”
April 12 | Centre 64 Gallery | 7 pm
Deborah Thompson is a visual artist and educator.
This touring body of work is a response to a world plagued by anxiety. Through facial expressions of both animal and human form, the artist explores the mind’s pendulum as it swings between panic and desire. The work is an invocation to the pagan god of nature, Pan whose earthy passions call us back to the body and into the present moment. The resultant body of new work includes a series of paintings, studio drawings and kinetic sculptures. Studio based research and contemplative reading served as an incubator for the creation of this new work. The artist will present images of this work as she discusses the complexity of its manifestation.
